Scottish Water Horizons launches ‘pre-approved’ design to accelerate new homes to market
A brand new pre-approved design service, which will significantly speed up construction and vesting of waste water pumping stations, is now available to developers throughout Scotland.
Developed by Scottish Water Horizons, in partnership with water technology company Xylem Water Solutions UK & Ireland, the new ‘ready-to-use’ design will enable developers to secure technical approval for pumping stations in a fraction of the time.
Created in response to the need for faster installation and vesting of pumping stations, the new design solution has been welcomed by developers. The standardised format means certainty of technical approval from the very outset, helping developers get to site sooner and ultimately speeding up the entire programme delivery.
The new design service has been approved by Scottish Water, helping bridge the gap between construction, commissioning and vesting of pumping stations, to help facilitate economic growth and development.
The pre-approved design now forms an integral part of Scottish Water Horizons’ wider pumping station service offering – from initial design right through to construction and final vesting.
Through the company, developers in Scotland can also further benefit from exclusive access to Xylem’s state-of-the-art Flygt Concerter® pump technology, which features unique integrated intelligence and significant energy consumption savings compared to other pumps on the market.
The service reflects Scottish Water Horizon’s focus and commitment to innovation to identify new ways to improve and grow services for Scottish housing developers.
Colin Lindsay, Scottish Water Horizons operations manager, said: “We’re really excited to introduce our new pumping station design service to the developer community. Despite current challenges with the pandemic, the demand for new housing continues to grow.
“Well-designed pumping stations, efficient project delivery and timely asset vesting are crucial to any new development. By introducing a standardised design solution, we are confident developers will benefit from improved programme times and certainty of asset adoption.
“We’re continuing to work closely with our customers to ensure we continue to innovate our service and bring much needed new homes to market.”
Chris Stewart, Xylem’s regional sales and operations manager for Scotland, added: “Xylem is proud to continue the successful partnership with Scottish Water Horizons. Xylem’s Flygt Concertor offers unparalleled pumping system efficiency, capable of reducing energy consumption by up to 70%, compared to conventional pumps and control systems.
“This collaboration will further contribute to a greener future for Scotland, which is a key driver behind both Scottish Water Horizon’s and Xylem’s sustainability focus. Flygt Concertor is designed to ensure clean wet wells, clog-free operation and a reduction in vacuum cleaning call-outs by up to 80%. The result is a clean, safe system for operators with additional benefits of reduced capital and operational costs. For the Scottish developer, modern urban wastewater challenges will be a thing of the past.”
The launch of the design follows swiftly on the back of the company’s latest offering to the developer community – FastTrack Drainage – which was developed to accelerate the validation of drainage designs.
