Sharkey to transform accommodation for University of Edinburgh students

The University of Edinburgh is to spend £6.9 million to refurbish an accommodation block home to almost 250 students.

The major revamp will transform the living space at Churchill House, one of the University’s largest student residences.

The University confirmed that the work is being carried out because the block is showing signs of “considerable wear and tear” after almost 30 years of use.

It said the investment would ensure it continues to meet the future needs of the university’s residents.

A section of the building is currently closed and the areas under refurbishment will reopen in September 2025.

The University has appointed Sharkey to undertake the extensive upgrade.

A spokesperson for Sharkey said: “The £6.9m project, which will involve refurbishment of all bedrooms, showers and corridors, together with the replacement of two passenger lifts, provides us with a welcome opportunity to work again with the University’s design team, with whom we collaborated successfully on a recent project of a similar scale and scope.”
