Global construction consultancy Soben has announced five new senior leadership promotions following another year of significant growth.

The company said it expects to close the year with a revenue increase of over 40% for 2024 and another record-breaking year forecast for 2025. Next year Soben expects revenue to again exceed 40% and headcount to grow to over 400 worldwide.

This strong performance, particularly in the data centre sector, has been driven by the AI-fuelled expansion of global digital infrastructure. From its Glasgow HQ, Soben has taken on several major data centre developments across Europe and the Americas, as well as continuing its work in Life Sciences, Energy and Infrastructure, supporting projects in 43 countries.

The five leadership appointments are all internal promotions, reflecting the company’s commitment to developing its senior management team and investing in people. The promotions are designed to ensure Soben is well-positioned for its projected growth in 2025 and beyond.

In the newly created position of group chief operating officer, Joe Cusick will now oversee Soben’s global service delivery, ensuring consistency and world-class standards for Soben’s global clients. Since joining Soben in 2021, Joe has leveraged his 30+ years of industry experience to lead the company’s expansion into the Americas, where Soben now has operations across the US, Chile, Brazil and Mexico.

Colin Smith moves from his role as group financial director to become group chief financial officer. Since joining Soben in 2023, Colin has played a key role in overseeing financial operations, strengthening controls, and driving the company’s strategic decision-making and financial growth. In his new role, he takes responsibility for managing finance, commercial operations, controls, reporting, and compliance across the group.

Robert Kim steps into the role of CEO Americas, taking over Soben’s fastest growing region from Joe Cusick. Chartered surveyor Robert has been at Soben since 2021 where he has led the North American business, delivering innovative, value-driven solutions.

Mark Smith has been promoted to group account executive, where he will be dedicated to supporting Soben’s largest global tech client with their ambitious expansion plans. Based in the US, Mark brings 20 years of quantity surveying experience across multiple continents and sectors. With deep expertise in cost planning, risk management, and supply chain management, Mark will focus on developing relationships and delivering excellence on Soben’s largest account.

Data centre expert, Pieter Schaap, has been promoted to group development director. Drawing on his extensive experience in data centre development, construction and sustainability, Pieter will be dedicated to working with Soben’s most important data centre clients to support their growth and expansion plans. A recognised thought leader in the sector, Pieter will continue to support clients in navigating complex data centre projects, ensuring their successful delivery.

Scott Smyth, Soben’s founder and CEO, congratulated the team on their promotions, stating: “These leadership appointments are a reflection of Soben’s incredible growth over the past few years. Each of these individuals has demonstrated exceptional commitment and expertise, and their promotions signify our investment in our people as we look to the future. We are proud to build a leadership team that will continue driving our vision forward, ensuring we deliver excellence for our clients across the globe.”
