South Ayrshire Council starts promenade improvement works
As part of South Ayrshire Council’s £1m capital investment in each ward, road improvement works have started at Newton Shore Promenade, Ayr Promenade and Troon Promenade.
The works, which are being carried out by the Ayrshire Roads Alliance, will see Newton Shore Promenade in Ayr benefit from a newly resurfaced car park, carriageway and footpath. A new cycle lane will also be added.
The improvement works will see the introduction of solar-powered lighting on the footway and ducting will be installed to allow street lighting to be included in the future.
Two pedestrian crossings will mean safe access to the promenade and access will be improved to a raised grass area.
Resurfacing works are also taking place at the promenades in Ayr and Troon.
Mike Newall, director of housing operations and development at South Ayrshire Council, said: “I am delighted these works are underway as part of our Ward Capital Projects. They will help make the promenades accessible for all throughout the year. If the weather remains kind, I expect these works to be competed in the next few weeks.”
