South Ayrshire councillors to decide on £4.4m road improvement plan

South Ayrshire Council is set to make a decision to invest more than £4.4 million in road improvements in 2025/26.
A report, which will go before councillors tomorrow, includes a proposed outline of works for this year, including road resurfacing across the region, further investment in streetlighting, footpaths, bridge maintenance and coastal defences.
The report proposes that an additional £4m, funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, is used to develop Active Travel Routes linking Prestwick to Barassie and Barassie to Dundonald.
Councillor Bob Pollock, economic development portfolio holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “Our transport infrastructure is crucial to economic growth across South Ayrshire and our roads are one of our most valuable assets.
“We’ve improved our ranking according to the Road Condition Index which records the maintenance of Scottish roads. This is great news, but we are determined to do even better.
“It’s crucial that we continue to balance investment in our roads with our active travel projects. If the paper is agreed, 2025 will see more multi-purpose paths and routes springing up to link communities across South Ayrshire.”
