Springfield Properties staff raise more than £1,200 for Moray charity

Staff at housebuilder Springfield Properties have raised money for Moray inclusive surfing charity, SurfABLE.

Launched in 2017, SurfABLE is Scotland’s first inclusive and fully adaptive surf therapy organisation. Based on the North East coast, hosting regular sessions at Lossiemouth, Hopeman, Cullen and Sanden, the charity offer lessons to budding surfers of all ages and abilities.

Through bake sales, dress down days and bonus ball raffles, the staff at Springfield fundraised for the charity during 2022 and have raised an impressive £1,260.89.

To thank the Springfield employees for their fundraising efforts, SurfABLE invited staff from the housebuilding company to join them for a surf lesson in Lossiemouth. Swapping their high vis for wetsuits, 9 employees headed to the beach to catch some waves.

Springfield managing director (north), Dave Main, said: “We like to pull together to fundraise for a different local charity each year. There are a few surfers in our Elgin office, myself included, and we were really impressed with the great work that SurfABLE do to make surfing an accessible sport for everyone.

“It was fantastic of them to give our staff a surf lesson. There were some first timers headed to the water that are now eager to get back out there for another shot!”

Glyn Morris, co-founder, SurfABLE Scotland said: “A thank you doesn’t come close to the huge thanks we wish to give staff at Springfield Properties for all their epic support over this past year. Providing custom equipment for individuals with limited mobility, small group lessons for surfers who require a higher ratio of support, and larger group lessons for more independent surfers, SurfABLE Scotland allows individuals to push their boundaries to become more independent, resilient, and confident within themselves and in social surroundings within our stunning coastline.

“In 2022, SurfABLE Scotland led Para Surf Scotland’s debut team into the World Para Surf Championship in California, and alongside our 26 volunteers, we feel very privileged in continuing to provide life-changing adventure and surf therapy for so many. From us all at SurfABLE Scotland, thank you so much.”
