St Giles Centre Car Park upper levels closed on public safety grounds
Drivers in Moray are advised that levels three to six in the St Giles Centre car park in Elgin are currently closed on public safety grounds.
Following investigative works by specialist contractors, it was advised to close upper levels of the car park for safety reasons.
Levels one and two are unaffected, where there are 93 spaces available. Blue badge holders can park free of charge in any space, however they should be aware that there is no step-free access to the centre from these levels. Alternative parking is also available at North Port, including 10 spaces for blue badge holders, and Ladyhill Road.
Nicola Moss, Moray Council’s transportation manager, said: “We have a duty to ensure the safety of the public, and this closure is in response to those obligations.
“We acted swiftly to reduce the risk and don’t foresee the upper levels of the car park re-opening until a future plan for the structure is known. We’ll review the blue badge spaces and advise the public of any further changes to access to these spaces. We apologise to drivers for any inconvenience caused.”
