Designed by Page/Park Architects, the new building is a joint venture from the INTO University of Stirling Partnership. The INTO students will come from abroad and experience a year of learning language in the new centre, before progressing to a relevant University programme.

The centre will be located to the south of the Cottrell building and will frame a new entrance approach to the Campus. The accommodation includes teaching, staff and support spaces over three floor levels. At the heart of the proposal is a stepped atrium, which will also provide a variety of breakout and social learning spaces for the students.

According to Page/Park, Feng Shui was a requirement of the brief: “The architectural concept is imagined as three interlocking elements;

“A mass of Stirling rock which is the functional core of the Centre, the ‘sky’ which provides the light filled social learning spaces and a circulation route which flows through the building and connects the rock and the sky.

“These elements relate to the location of Stirling and also have a strong symbolism in Eastern culture. In Feng Shui; Rock represents learning, Sky represents socialising and friendship and River represents the journey.”
