Stirling Council approves plans for expansion of Plean factory

Stirling Council planners have conditionally approved plans submitted by Plean Precast Ltd for a steel frame extension to an existing brickwork shed.

A 1424m² extension to the existing casting shed will now begin construction. This will accommodate the additional production of precast units following the transfer of Sterling Precast manufacturing to Plean Precast.

The planners said: “The merging of companies is expected to add approximately 40 additional staff in total to the site, of which 20 will be based inside the new shed extension. The remainder of the additional staff will be based across thee site in existing facilities. The total number of staff on-site will increase to 95 including office staff.

“[Separate] approval has been obtained for the construction of a replacement office building for welfare and staff facilities and to reconfigure the parking and access layout. These works have yet to be undertaken on the site.”

Plean Precast Ltd is closing its current manufacturing plant at Springkerse and relocating its operations and employees to the Plean Precast premises, forming part of a wider expansion to allow all manufacturing to be consolidated and undertaken within the one facility, The Stirling Observer reports.

The planners added: “in the context of the site, the building will not be overly dominant or out of character with the surrounding area and is buffered by a public road and forest which separates the site from more sensitive land uses.

“Furthermore, the Environmental Health team have reviewed the proposal and recommended conditions which have been imposed to manage noise and nuisance effects.”
