The Unite union has confirmed that its members in the council’s Building Services teams will be taking industrial action during December 2023 and January 2024.

During the days covered by the action, only emergency housing repairs will be carried out. Emergency repairs could include issues such as serious water pipe leaks; no heating or hot water; failure of electrical supply; or insecure property.

Days covered by the industrial action are:

• Tuesday 19 December 2023
• Wednesday 20 December 2023
• Thursday 21 December 2023
• Wednesday 3 January 2024
• Thursday 4 January 2024

All other repairs and maintenance appointments will be cancelled, and Building Services will contact those tenants to rearrange these works in due course.

West Lothian Council has currently suspended non-urgent repairs to allow resources to be focused on bringing vacant houses back into use to help address homelessness and reduce waiting lists.
