Plans have been submitted to develop a C-listed granite building in Aberdeen city centre into student accommodation.

Seaforth Developments and Covell Matthews Architects have submitted plans for the creation of 88 student beds at 28 Gallowgate.

The property will be built from reclaimed rubble on the footprint of the existing structures with a base course of reconstituted granite elsewhere.

Seaforth Developments initially explored the possible retention and refurbishment of the existing building looking to invigorate it and give it a new purpose. Many different uses for the building were explored including student residence, restaurant, office, HMO accommodation, hotel, hostel and residential. However following a building conservation report it was evident that the existing buildings condition was poor and numerous areas of concern were highlighted.

The development will include a roof terrace and a range of amenity spaces including a common room, games area, cinema, gym and study.
