Student accommodation plans for Glasgow school win approval
A project to transform a former school in Glasgow’s West End into student accommodation has been given the green light.
About this development:
- Authority:Glasgow City
- Type:Residential
- Applications:
- Team:IDP Partnership (architect), Urban Pulse (developer)
Under plans designed by IDP Partnership on behalf of Urban Pulse, the building at 333 Woodlands Road will become 71 separate flats for those in full time education at one the city’s universities.
The property has been used as the headquarters for the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) with The Stand Comedy Club occupying in the basement.
The planning consent allows for the addition of a rooftop extension along with landscaping and landscape improvements. The Stand Comedy Club will be unaffected.
On-site facilities will include a cinema room, lounge, study and laundry.
In a statement IDP wrote: “A new roof structure and skin is proposed which will contribute to creating a more sustainable building that is thermally comfortable for residents and less of a detriment to the environment. The proposed roof conversion is complementary to the existing building form and to the local tenemental context in design, massing and material choice.
“Care has been taken to ensure that the conversion respects and preserves the character of the building whilst honouring the conservation area setting.”
