Summit Facilities Services celebrates third birthday
Dundee-based Summit Facilities Services, which provides core all trade work via a directly employed workforce of electricians, plumbers, heating engineers, joiners and painters, celebrates three years in business this month.
Summit has become a mainstay of local facilities services, counting housing associations, universities, local authorities and many well known private businesses amongst a loyal clientele.
Following their own redundancies, directors Matthew McCallum and Nick McGill founded the business in February 2019. Since then, Summit has clocked up several industry accreditations and reached a milestone of £2 million turnover in the 12 months to September 2021.
Slowly building the business, and acquiring Tayside Automatic Doors in 2020, Summit has placed an emphasis on providing quality tradespeople and services to undertake routine and specialist contracts. From two initial founders, Summit appointed its 20th employee in 2021. The team now includes three apprentices and is an Accredited Living Wage employer.
Citing both people and an emphasis on accredited services as the foundation of their success, Nick McGill said: “When Matthew and I decided to start up on our own, it was very important to us that we would not only offer a quality service, based on our combined six decades of expertise, but that we would also become a valued local employer.
“We’re delighted that we have built up our workforce with fantastic, local tradespeople and also that we are supporting the next generation, investing in the future of the business and the sector, by offering apprenticeships and, with the acquisition of Tayside Automatic Doors, we were also able to take on a trainee automatic door engineer.”
Matthew added: “It was also essential that Summit Facilities Services would gain the right accreditations from the start and we continue to build on these. Most recently in September 2021, we were accredited by SNIPEF, Scotland and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers Federation, to add to our existing SELECT, NICEIC and Constructionline accreditations.
“Our customers know that we always strive to offer an efficient, professional and cost-effective service and we back this up with continual improvement and the quality of our accreditations. Whether we’re providing routine checks or implementing a planned maintenance programme, our customers know that the work will be carried out to a guaranteed quality standard.”
While the previous three years have not been easy for any business, Matthew and Nick agree that this gives the team at Summit even greater confidence for the years to come.
Nick said: “We got off to a great start in 2019 and following that, we really found our feet in providing the support that our customers needed to keep them going through a very difficult time, all the while adapting our practices and operations to keep our clients and employees safe and grow our own business.
“We feel like we made the right choice in naming the business back in 2019. Whether we’ve reached the peak remains to be seen, but with our amazing team and range of capabilities, we are definitely well on our way to the top.”
