Surveyor set for next step in construction career with Persimmon
A Wishaw-based surveyor is celebrating the completion of his degree after being supported through his studies by his employer, Persimmon Homes.
Ryan Carroll, 26, took his first step in the construction industry as a commercial trainee with Persimmon Homes West Scotland. The role involved Ryan working across the homebuilder’s buying and surveying departments to get an understanding of the commercial arm of the company.
After joining one of Britain’s biggest homebuilders in October 2018, Ryan immersed himself in the industry and soon had his heart set on becoming a quantity surveyor. With the support of Persimmon West Scotland, Ryan was enrolled in an HNC in Quantity Surveying at the City of Glasgow College, before progressing to a BSc in Quantity Surveying at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2021. The homebuilder covered the costs of Ryan’s university fees and ensured he was given the time and support needed to attend his course and study.
Earlier this month, Ryan completed his degree and has since been promoted to assistant quantity surveyor within the business. He now has set his sights on rising through the ranks at Persimmon Homes.
Ryan Carroll said: “I am grateful for Persimmon Homes for supporting me through my studies. The support both academically and professionally has made a real difference and I’m now looking forward to the next stage in my career with the company.”
Chris Logan, Persimmon West Scotland managing director, added: “I am delighted that Ryan has completed his degree and earned a distinction in the process. It has been great to see Ryan make real progress since joining our commercial department.
“Ryan is a great example of our commitment to creating exciting jobs and opportunities for local people in the areas we operate in.”
