The work is being split into two phases and one lane of one of the two carriageways will always be open in one direction during these phases. Both pavements on the bridge will be always open for pedestrians during the work.

During phase two, the bridge will be closed south-bound, with only one lane heading north. Roads affected included Great Southern Road between its junctions with King George VI bridge roundabout and the Duthie Park roundabout, and the A92 Stonehaven Road between its junctions with Bridge of Dee roundabout and the Garthdee roundabout.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman, said: “We apologise for the inconvenience of these works however they are essential work for the bridge. Drivers are advised to check restrictions on Public Information Notices for Scotland | Tellmescotland, avoid the area for the duration of the works if they can, and use alternative routes including the City Bypass. Bus passengers should check bus company websites or contact bus companies for how the roadworks affect routes.”

The completion of the resurfacing and waterproofing work is due to finish late next month however this will be dependent on what is found in phase two of the works.

The local diversion during both phases of the work is via the Bridge of Dee.
