In recognition of National Tree Week (23 November—1 December 2024), eight volunteers from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland recently gave up a morning of their usual ‘day’ jobs to plant 550  trees in the new Auldcathie District Park in Winchburgh.

The homebuilder’s latest support to the local community marks its ongoing commitment to  Winchburgh, its regular support of the Winchburgh Community Growing Group and its garden at the heart of the village.

With homeowners now settled into the completed development of new homes at Auldcathie View, overlooking Auldcathie District Park, and the first homeowners moving into its nearby Seton Rise development in the village, volunteering in this way is an excellent way for Taylor  Wimpey staff to show their commitment to the area.

Murray O’Hare, quantity surveyor and lead for the company’s Young Persons’ Forum, who organised the volunteering, explains further: “We do more than just build high-quality homes. Working with local community groups and organisations surrounding our developments means a lot to us, and it’s great to know that we are helping to make a difference right here in Winchburgh, just a stone’s throw from our completed Auldcathie View development and within just a short walk of our current Seton Rise development.

“Following a briefing and guidance from John at the Winchburgh Community Growing Group, our team of eight has worked hard during our morning to plant our target of 550 trees. We hope they will become established to add to the overall tranquillity and enjoyment of Auldcathie District Park and positively impact the local environment. It’s great for us individually to give  back to the communities where we build, and while it’s been hard work – we’ve all enjoyed the challenge.”

Commenting on the latest hands-on support that it has received from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, John West, who heads up Winchburgh Community Growing Group, added: “Our community garden is growing and developing as each week goes by, and since we established it in 2021 it has been supported by a great team of volunteers who help out each Saturday.

“The community garden sits within the new Auldcathie District Park, which was created for the  enjoyment of the whole local community, and we are delighted that a team from Taylor Wimpey  has been involved in planting some of this year’s tree stocks – extending their support to the  local community in a way that benefits everyone who uses the park.”

Taylor Wimpey’s assistance to Winchburgh Community Growing Group is one of the housebuilder’s many contributions.
