Taylor Wimpey gives lesson in safety to Robroyston schoolchildren

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland returned to school last week to remind the children at Wallacewell Primary in Robroyston about health and safety.

As construction at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s development of new homes at nearby Monument Way is well underway, and homeowners are now moving in, the homebuilder was keen to promote the dangers associated with playing near any construction site. This visit also allowed Taylor Wimpey to raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant as the building of its new homes progresses, especially as the school summer holidays are due to start in just a few weeks’ time.

Being proactive with local schools has proven an effective deterrent in the past, as Deryck Schendel, regional health and safety advisor for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland, said: “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is of vital importance to Taylor Wimpey. Taking this type of proactive approach with local schools allows us to reinforce just how important it is for children to stay away from building sites, and it gives us the chance to remind the children that building sites are not playgrounds!”

Mrs Kathleen Taylor, depute head teacher at Wallacewell Primary School, added: “We were delighted to welcome Deryck from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland into our school to highlight the dangers associated with children playing near any construction site. It’s great that Taylor Wimpey understands the importance of our children’s safety and has created an interactive and proactive approach to appeal to our pupils.”

Following Taylor Wimpey’s presentation, the children have been tasked with creating health and safety posters that will be considered for display at the development to remind those in the wider local community never to play near a live construction site.
