The acknowledgement, which came in the firm’s annual results statement, follows an investigation by the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire show which claimed that Taylor Wimpey agreed to replace the mortar in more than 90 separate properties. An assessment by engineers uncovered “no structural issues” with the homes, the housebuilder said at the time.

Taylor Wimpey said it in its statement: “We acknowledge concerns raised by some of our customers in connection to mortar durability on a development in Peebles.

“While a significant number of houses on the development are unaffected, a robust technical solution, supported by an appointed structural engineer and the NHBC (National Housebuilding Council), to fix the durability of the mortar has been identified and homes are being remediated as soon as possible.

“Our group-wide approach has been enhanced in the year through development of new tools and processes, which when fully embedded, will further support the delivery of our homes as promised to our customers.”

Elsewhere in the statement, Taylor Wimpey hailed a “positive start” to 2019, reporting a 5.5% rise in underlying pre-tax profits to £856.8 million for 2018.

In Scotland, the number of completions was 1,257, up from 1,165 in 2017.

The firm is building new homes across Scotland including in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Fife.
