Tenant ‘delighted’ with new home in revived West Lothian development

A previous ‘ghost town’ in West Lothian is coming back to life as more tenants move into their affordable homes.

The £11.1 million development at Deans South in Livingston will see a total of 52 newly constructed social housing properties being occupied in time for Christmas.

The development – being built for Wheatley Homes East, part of Wheatley Group, by Springfield Partnerships – includes a mix of one, two and three-bedroom properties, comprising bungalows, cottage flats and terraced houses.

Each of the homes uses innovative heating systems in the form of air source heat pumps, which reduce the emissions of the home, so they are less impactful on the environment, while keeping the running costs low for the residents.

Megan Paterson is a 24-year-old Nursery Practitioner who recently moved into the development. She said: “I’m really enjoying living in my new home. I’m delighted with it. It’s in a quiet area and my neighbours are lovely.

“Before I moved in, I was living between my mum’s home, my partners and sometimes friends, so it’s great having my own place.”

It’s part of a wider regeneration of the area, which will see a community of 127 new homes delivered, transforming the once abandoned estate.

The project is being funded by £6.8m grant funding from the Scottish Government and charitable bonds and supported with £4.3m from Wheatley Group.

Laura Henderson, managing director of Wheatley Homes East, said: “It’s great to see the regeneration of Deans South and more affordable homes being built in the area.

“This has been a complex project, and we thank Springfield and West Lothian Council for their crucial ongoing support in bringing these much-needed homes to life.”

Springfield Partnerships managing director, Tom Leggeat, said: “We firmly believe that everyone deserves a good place to live, and we are delighted to have played such a significant role in the transformation of a neglected part of the Deans area and create new houses people are proud to call home.

“We have a fantastic relationship with Wheatley Group and together have delivered hundreds of new, high quality and energy efficient homes for people that need them, including those at Deans. We are excited to welcome the new residents to their homes in time for the festive period.”
