Employees at Kier Construction in Scotland have helped raise £10,200 over the past few months as part of the Kier Group’s ongoing support for a leading UK charity.

The money raised will be donated via The Kier Foundation, Kier’s independently registered charity, to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Kier Foundation supports Macmillan Cancer Support in addition to other charitable causes close to the hearts of Kier employees and the communities in which the company works.

Kier Group and The Kier Foundation initially pledged to fund 4,000 nursing hours when the two-year partnership with the charity launched in June 2014.

However, with six months of the partnership remaining, Kier has raised £280,000, which is enough to provide more than 10,000 nursing hours, and could provide over five years of Macmillan nurse funding.

Brian McQuade, managing director of Kier Construction’s Scotland and north-east England business, said: “We are pleased to have raised such a significant amount for a charity which does such good work for all those affected by cancer, and we hope that the funding will help support its efforts across Scotland.”

The Kier Foundation was established by the board of Kier Group plc, and registered as an independent charity in November 2011. The purpose of The Kier Foundation is to raise funds for and offer practical assistance to charitable bodies and other qualifying causes throughout the UK, mainly through the activities of Kier employees and Kier companies.

In addition to fundraising, Kier has used its position within the construction industry to raise cancer awareness among its employees and the general public.
