First up, plans for a 12-storey hotel were given the green light by Glasgow City Council.

At number nine, North Lanarkshire Council granted planning permission in principle for a new cinema and restaurant complex in Cumbernauld.



Making number eight was a construction company which is being sued for £3.8 million by a hotelier following a contractual dispute successfully challenging a court ruling preventing it from having the case resolved by adjudication.

The demolition of former council housing at Northburn Place in Airdrie was the seventh most read story, while South Lanarkshire Council’s approval of plans for almost 50 new council homes in Hamilton made sixth on the list.

The top five begins with the sod-cutting at a substantial new residential development delivered by Highland Housing Alliance in partnership with Cairn Housing Association in the picturesque harbour village of Avoch on the Moray Firth, followed swiftly by the approval of Springfield Properties’ 3,000-home ‘village’ development approval at Durieshill.



A plan by Carmichael Homes & Interiors to develop a disused garage site in East Kilbride town centre into 28 new flats was the third most read of the year.

At number two, a Dundee-based scaffolding company lost its licence to operate commercial vehicles after it was found to have gained an unfair competitive advantage over other businesses.

Making the top spot was a story from just this month regarding the start of construction on a new housing development which will bring 172 properties to a former car manufacturing site in Paisley.
