A bid to secure permission to build new apartments on a vacant site in Finnieston has been successful at the third time of asking.

An application by HJV Consultants for a block with 14 flats and two ground floor commercial units at 1017 Argyle Street has been approved by Glasgow City Council’s planning applications committee.

Two previous proposals had been refused, although the more recent one was recommended for approval by planners only to be voted down by councillors.

Recommending the revised application for approval once again, planning officials stated in their report: “The application site is a vacant brownfield site and the proposed development will help to strengthen the residential character of the area by reintroducing housing onto a site which once housed tenement style flatted properties.

“The design and materials of the proposal have been amended to ensure the building design better relates to that of the adjacent Listed Building and context of the surrounding conservation area.”

An application for 19 flats and two commercial units at the site was refused in 2019.
