Thomas & Adamson continues UK growth with Royal London HQ completion
Construction and property consultancy Thomas & Adamson (T&A) has completed the construction of the new Royal London headquarters in the heart of the City of London.
Located at 80 Fenchurch Street, also known as EightyFen, the 55,000 sq ft Category B fit-out spans five floors and puts Royal London’s people at the forefront of the building’s design.
The project set ambitious sustainability targets from the outset and is targeting both BREEAM Excellent and WELL Gold accreditations, two internationally recognised standards for wellness in the work environment. Royal London, the largest life, pensions and investment mutual in the UK welcomed its employees to the new space at the end of June 2023.
The development forms a critical aspect of Royal London’s strategic approach to achieve its Purpose and play its part in moving fairly to a sustainable world, including working towards net zero by 2050 across its business operations. T&A provided project and cost management services, as well as acting as the principal designer of the state-of-the-art office.
Works consisted of the consolidation of existing facilities from its 55 Gracechurch Street offices into a new purpose design, ensuring that Royal London employees benefit from a modern, collaborative space. Innovative smart technology has been embedded throughout the sustainable space, which began construction in September 2022.
David Lane, director at Thomas & Adamson, said: “The fit-out of the new London headquarters of Royal London has been a hugely rewarding project, allowing us to work collaboratively with the firm as it embraced sustainability to transform the space, whilst showcasing our expertise in the production of sustainable builds. The unique nature of this Cat B fit out, in terms of climate goals and budget, is a great example of how at T&A we can assist our clients in developing bespoke spaces which meet all their criteria.”
Leigh Fyffe, head of workplace estates and strategy, Royal London, said: “The new state-of-the-art property provides us with the flexibility to develop new ways of working and to meet our evolving business needs, enabling productivity all within the heart of the City. Our colleagues will benefit from working and collaborating in a modern and sustainable space with innovative smart technology embedded throughout.”
