Town Action Plans unveiled for Airdrie, Motherwell and Wishaw
Town Action Plans for all are making excellent progress, bringing benefits to communities across North Lanarkshire.
Public drop-in sessions are currently running in Airdrie, Motherwell, and Wishaw. These provide the opportunity for residents to voice their opinions, share proposals, and promote specific projects they wish to see implemented within their town centres.
Craig McIntyre, project co-ordinator with North Lanarkshire Council, explained: “The draft Town Action Plans aim to foster a vibrant mixed-use town centre economy that meets the evolving needs of the community.
“At their heart it’s about shaping the future of our towns and create thriving communities.
“Key proposals for Airdrie, Motherwell, and Wishaw are detailed in the draft Town Action Plans, which can be accessed through our website.”
Two versions of the draft Town Action Plans are provided: a full version offering background information and detailed proposals, and a summary document focused on the proposed actions for each town.
Moving forward, Town Action Plans will be developed for the remaining five town centres in North Lanarkshire as part of the next phase of the development process.
Consultation events for the draft Town Action Plans are scheduled to be held from May 23 to June 30, 2023. These events will take place in local libraries in each town during normal opening hours.
Council officers will be present at the following locations and times to answer any questions people may have:
- Wishaw Library - Tuesdays: June 6, June 13, June 20, and June 27, 2023 - 2pm to 5pm each week.
- Motherwell Library - Wednesdays: June 7, June 14, June 21, and June 28, 2023 - 2pm to 5pm each week.
- Airdrie Library - June 8, June 15, June 22, and June 29, 2023 - 2pm to 5pm each week.
For those unable to attend these events, the exhibition materials are also available online for viewing and commenting.
The plans for Airdrie, Motherwell, and Wishaw can be accessed from the council website, and exhibition materials can be downloaded for reference.
An online survey will soon be available for further engagement.
The town action plans are part of the council’s Plan for North Lanarkshire, which aims to create vibrant and inclusive communities by delivering high-quality housing, improving infrastructure, and promoting economic opportunities across the region.
