Traditional building skills to be showcased at Scottish Parliament demonstration
The need to encourage traditional building skills will be highlighted outside the Scottish Parliament this week.
The Scottish Traditional Building Forum will be delivering a traditional building skills demonstration with MSPs and school pupils receiving mini-masterclasses in stonemasonry, roof slating, decorative plastering and painting & decorating skills with the assistance from apprentices across Scotland.
The demonstrations, part of Construction Scotland’s Inspiring Construction programme, will take place 9.30am - 3.45pm on Tuesday 28 May and Wednesday 29 May.
Activities include:
- Roof Slating by National Federation of Roofing Contractors
- Stonemasonry by Edinburgh College and Stone Federation GB
- Decorative Plastering by City of Glasgow College
- Painting and Decorating by Dundee & Angus College
- Infrared Scanning by University of Edinburgh
Sponsor MSPs for the event are Gordon Lindhurst MSP (Conservative & Convener of the Economy Committee), Sandra White MSP (SNP) and Elaine Smith MSP (Labour).
The Scottish Traditional Building Forum is made up of a network of local traditional building forums with representatives across the supply chain.
The Forum is concerned with the lack of awareness of property owners regarding the condition of their building and the wide ranging guidance offered to property owners in undertaking these repairs.
