Turner Services to commence air source heat pump project for Maryhill Housing

Maryhill Housing has awarded a contract for the installation of air source heat pumps in its stock to Turner Property Services.

The contract will involve replacing the existing electric storage heaters which are currently installed in Maryhill Housing’s ‘mini multi’ properties with new, more energy-efficient air source heat pumps.

Air source heat pumps are a renewable technology which take heat from the air and increase it to a higher temperature using a heat pump. They are easy to install, require little maintenance and are far more energy-efficient than the existing outdated heating systems.

The project has been part-funded by the Scottish Government’s Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme (LCITP). An award of up to £1.439 million has been made to the project as part of the Scottish Government’s objective to support Scotland’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

Community benefits for the contract with Turner Services include work experience, training and apprenticeship opportunities for students from local schools as well as a contribution to the ‘Maryhill Helps’ scheme which was set up in December 2020 to support disadvantaged Maryhill Housing customers with children aged 16 and under.

Works are expected to commence on April 19.

Maryhill Housing chief executive, Bryony Willett, said: “At Maryhill Housing we are committed to providing great homes for our customers in strong and thriving communities. We understand from previous feedback that many of our customers are concerned about the energy efficiency of their homes and the cost of their heating. We are delighted to be working alongside Turner Services on this exciting project to provide our customers with more efficient and effective heating systems.”

Last month, Turner Services secured a new contract for the provision of reactive repairs with Maryhill Housing for an initial period of three years.

David Black, head of operations and commercial at Turner Services, said: “We are proud of the high standards of the air source heat pump installation services that we will deliver with this contract award. We will strengthen our existing relationships, building on the strong foundations established, to enhance our service offering and will work together with Maryhill Housing on delivering joint social value initiatives.”
