Cambuslang-based sub-contractor Veitchi Group is reporting an upsurge in business for three of its key divisions.

The firm, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in March, attributed the recent increase to the popularity of its award winning ‘Metframe’ and several significant flooring projects.

Veitchi Interiors, the fastest growing division with the Group, is Scotland’s only approved installer of Metframe; a lightweight steel structure built off site and delivered in pre-panelised form.

In the last 24 months, 14 projects across the UK totalling in excess of £8 million have been completed by the division. These include a 7-storey student accommodation block in Edinburgh, a 2-storey hotel extension in Glasgow and a 3-storey hotel in Oxford, as well as jobs in London and Cambridge.

The student accommodation project at Haddington Place in Edinburgh picked up Silver in the Judges Category at last week’s Scottish FIS (Finishes and Interiors Sector) Awards ceremony.

“Metframe is particularly attractive to contractors working on developments in tight city centre locations because it vastly reduces the construction time,” said Veitchi Interiors managing director, Colin Kennedy. “Building on the initial success of this product, we are now working through an order book of contracts worth £7m.”

Veitchi’s two flooring divisions are also reporting a stellar year. Veitchi Flooring has recently completed contracts amounting to £3 million at the new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and an office and hotel development at Marischal Square in Aberdeen.

Veitchi Industrial Flooring, meanwhile, will shortly complete a £700,000 programme of works on behalf of City Building LLP to upgrade toilets in primary and secondary schools across Glasgow.

“These particular divisions have been very active in providing key services to main contractors as these recent contract wins and completed projects demonstrate,” said the Group’s managing director, Jim Preston.

And the Veitchi Group has also set up its own charity fund called Veitchi Gives which is supporting 17 charities as part of the Group’s centenary year celebrations.

Of the 25 planned events which have been completed to date nearly £30,000 has been raised, 100 food boxes gifted and over 30 pints of blood donated.
