Updated plans for new Glasgow student accommodation brought forward for consultation

Members of the public are being given a second opportunity to offer their thoughts on updated proposals to create a new Purpose-Built Student Accommodation-led mixed-use development in Glasgow city centre.

Student accommodation developer Valeo Management Europe, which operates the Liv Student brand, is launching the second round of consultation on its plans to deliver approximately 500 new student beds on Carrick Street, Broomielaw.

The project aims to transform the brownfield site, currently home to the vacant headquarters of GAP Group, into a vibrant community hub. In addition to student accommodation, the proposal includes a versatile commercial unit designed to serve the new and growing community in Broomielaw. The proposal will also preserve and incorporate the modern Glasgow City Mission building, which was previously slated for demolition under earlier development proposals for the site and will ensure continued operation of the site by the charity.

Members of the public will be able to view the proposals on Tuesday 10 September between 3pm and 7pm at Box Hub, Axiom Building (50 Washington Street, Glasgow, G3 8AZ).

The event follows an initial public consultation held on Tuesday 18 June.

David Saunders, managing director of Valeo Management Europe, said: “We are delighted to bring forward plans for new purpose-built student accommodation in Glasgow City Centre.”

“The Broomielaw and wider River Clyde Waterfront is undergoing significant transformation, and we hope that our plans will go somewhere to supporting this transition as well as providing much needed student rooms in Glasgow.

“We look forward to engaging with local residents and other interested parties over the coming months as we develop our exciting new plans for Carrick Street.”
