The company, which currently employs 35 people, said it has seen a surprising uplift in trade since the easing of restrictions with a 40% month-on-month increase in trade during July.

Due to this significant increase in work – driven largely by the government’s £1.6 billion fund to repair unsafe cladding on high rise buildings and ongoing investment in public sector projects – MSP has taken on two new welders and is looking for additional staff in its administration and sales support functions.

Gillian Thomson, branch manager at MSP Facades’ facility in Cumbernauld, said: “The construction market north of the border was pretty quiet in quarter two as the legislation was a bit slower to be lifted in Scotland. Thankfully, a lot of projects we’re involved in down south have kept us really busy.

“We’ve been doing a lot of work in the fire-safe cladding sector on projects such as East Coast College, Lowestoft, where we’re stripping of ACM and replacing this with non-combustible A1 rated panels. And it looks really good.

“Looking ahead, while we’re delighted that the government has provided £1.6bn funding to replace faulty cladding, but the problem lies with who does the work. There are lots of people that could do it, but there are only a few real experts with a proven track record. We need to be careful to ensure the right people are doing this vital work.”
