Views sought on student accommodation plan for Glasgow's Bath Street

A developer has launched a public consultation into plans to replace redundant Glasgow city centre offices with student flats.

Residential and student accommodation firm McLaren Property has lodged early-stage proposals to transform a 1970s building at 285 Bath Street.

It is hoped the project will free up existing residential buildings that could make more homes available to local residents.

Preliminary designs for the accommodation include amenities such as a gym, bike storage and a roof garden.

Proposals include a ground-floor commercial space that could be used as a base for a local community group, as a café, or retail unit.

A public drop-in information event takes place on 18 June at The Renfield Centre, 260 Bath Street, G2 4JP. Information will also be available at 285bathstreet.co.uk.

McLaren Property’s divisional managing director, David Atherton, said: “It’s fantastic to be putting forward our initial proposals to bring this Glasgow city centre site back to life.

“We want to deliver best-in-class student homes to the city, which will help address the widely reported shortage of student accommodation and support both the universities and Glasgow to retain and develop young talent.”

If given the go-ahead, the project would create around 300 jobs.
