East Dunbartonshire Council is carrying out the first of two pre-application public consultations for the Westerhill Development Road, previously referred to as Phase 5 of the Bishopbriggs Relief Road, proposed for land to the north of Westerhill Road, Bishopbriggs.

Views can be provided online until Friday 29 November 2024.

A second pre-application public consultation – including another drop-in event – will take place in February 2025, prior to the planning application being submitted.

The road is part of the council’s £34.88 million Place and Growth Programme – supported by the UK and Scottish Governments through the Glasgow City Region City Deal.

Public consultation took place in May/June 2023 on options for the final phase of the Bishopbriggs Relief Road, now known as the Westerhill Development Road.

Councillor Gordan Low, leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “It’s important that plans for the Westerhill Development Road are informed by feedback from local residents, businesses, groups and stakeholders.

“The aim is to help unlock key strategic sites in the Westerhill Regeneration Area – potentially boosting the economy – while reducing non-essential traffic in Bishopbriggs town centre, helping to alleviate air quality issues.”

The City Deal project is taking an integrated approach to improve infrastructure within East Dunbartonshire, with two main elements:

  • Bishopbriggs Town Centre Regeneration
  • Delivery of the Westerhill Development Road and a masterplan for Westerhill.

The overall completion date is the end of 2026. The Scottish Government is investing £520m into the Glasgow City Region City Deal, with the UK Government providing £524m.
