Employees at Walker Timber in Bo’ness have raised £10,032 for Strathcarron Hospice, as part of the company’s annual Active April Challenge.

The 122-strong workforce was encouraged to complete as many steps as possible during the month, with a commitment from the company to donate £1 to its nominated charity for every mile walked.

The Walker Timber team achieved 10,032 miles, which were then converted into pounds for a donation to support the expert end-of-life care Strathcarron Hospice provides for people living in Forth Valley, Cumbernauld, and Kilsyth.

Stephen Mitchell, managing director at Walker Timber, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our team’s effort for Active April this year. It’s been inspiring to see staff across all areas of the business getting involved and contributing their steps to clock up over 10,000 miles for a great cause. The Active April Challenge has enabled us to make a real difference in our local community and is a testament to the commitment and determination of our employees.”

Claire Kennedy, corporate fundraiser, Strathcarron Hospice, said: “This has been a terrific initiative, we are absolutely thrilled that Walker Timber chose to support the hospice this year and really went that extra mile during the challenge.

“Their fundraising efforts have provided 20 days of specialist palliative care in our in-patient unit - a remarkable gift, which will make a real difference to people who need our support. If it wasn’t for local fundraisers like Walker Timber, Hospice at Home simply couldn’t keep going.”
