Wernick Group hopes to develop its new Dundee HQ at this Baird Avenue site

The modular building supplier plans to deliver a large workshop and new high-tech offices on an industrial brownfield site on Baird Avenue.

Should planning permission be granted, the £2.7 million investment will see the firm transfer its entire staff from its existing base at the city’s Baluniefield Trading Estate.

David Wernick, chairman of the Wernick Group, told Scottish Construction Now the new premises will facilitate long-term plans to double the workforce in the city and signals the company’s continued expansion into Scotland.

Mr Wernick said: “What we are planning to build is a large workshop for the preparation of modular buildings and cabins that have been ordered for hire as well as a brand new office building which will feature many high tech and environmentally friendly items, including electric vehicle charge points.

“Our total investment in the venture consists of around £750,000 for the land acquisition and about £2m on the build itself.”

The company has outgrown its current location at Baluniefield Trading Estate

Wernick Group, which also has bases in Coatbridge, Nairn and Lochgelly, currently employs approximately 10 people in Dundee and is looking to increase that to 15 or 20. Similar plans for a new site in Inverness are also in the pipeline.

Mr Wernick added: “That is the long-term ambition for our team in Dundee. As one of the main providers of modular buildings in the area, we are looking to improve our service offering to our current partners as well as seeking new clients.

“We are also applying for another site in Inverness. It’s all part of our continued expansion in the Scottish market which we view in a very positive light.”
