The outlet in King Street, adjacent to the University of Aberdeen, is expected to create more than 30 full and part-time jobs when it opens this month.

The £2 million, 557 sq m (6,000 sq ft) development, will be Co-Op’s newest convenience store in Aberdeen. It is one of several outlets that West Coast Estates has developed on behalf of Co-Op in recent years which has seen other new stores built throughout Scotland.

Bringing redundant sites and buildings back to life is a key focus of West Coast Estates.

“We are looking forward to seeing the community benefiting from this new convenient offering that is within easy walking distance of the university and other popular facilities such as Aberdeen Sports Village and the Aquatic Centre.

At a time when people are facing more challenges than ever, the new stores in King Street will give people a wide choice of products right on their doorstep - reducing the need to drive to a supermarket and making life a little easier.”

In addition to offering a wide selection of groceries, the store will also have a bakery, and car parking for up to 20 vehicles, including two electric charging points and two disabled spaces, as well as cycle spaces.

West Coast Estates partnered with contractor Burns Construction Aberdeen and CAG Architects to deliver the project. Henry Riley was the project manager on behalf of Co-Op. The unit has been constructed with sustainable roofing materials that minimise heat loss. It also features a reclaimed granite façade.
