West Dunbartonshire Council to build new community centre and nursery
A new £1.15 million Dalmonach Community Centre and nursery will be built after the plans were agreed by councillors.
The existing Dalmonach CE Centre, in Bonhill, was forced to close in January following serious damage to its flat-roof.
Since the closure groups who use the facility have been provided with alternative accommodation, but now they will be provided with a fantastic new facility.
The new centre will also include additional nursery space to meet the increased future demand that is predicted to be needed in the nearby Dalmonach Early Learning & Childcare Centre.
Detailed proposals will now be presented to a future West Dunbartonshire Council infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee following consultation with key stakeholders.
Council leader Martin Rooney said: “This is fantastic news for the Dalmonach community. The current centre was well used by a number of groups and also provided additional space for the nursery. So once this new facility is built not only will it provide first-class accommodation for various community groups but is also going to create bespoke nursery space which will help to improve the life chances of our children and young people. I look forward to seeing the plans being developed and moving forward with this project.”
The current Dalmonch CE Centre is more than 30 years old and was operated on behalf of the council by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust.
