West Dunbartonshire swimming club receives £3,000 donation from Persimmon
The West Dunbartonshire Amateur Swimming Club has received a £3,000 donation from Persimmon West Scotland to support its mission of fostering lifelong participation in swimming.
The volunteer-led club, which serves 170 members aged 7 to 18 years old, provides a pathway for swimmers of all abilities, from Scottish Champions to those just beginning their competitive journey. Training takes place daily across two swimming pools in West Dunbartonshire, with some performance squads committing to early morning sessions five times a week.
Many of the club’s swimmers come from areas of high deprivation, making the club’s efforts to keep costs low and build confidence essential for long-term participation in the sport.
Persimmon Homes’ donation will contribute to the costs of hosting the club’s annual championships and awards evening, ensuring the event remains free for all members. It will also support the club’s investment in qualifications for volunteer poolside helpers, creating a future generation of coaches and ensuring the club’s sustainable growth.
Chris Logan, managing director of Persimmon West Scotland, said: “We are delighted to support West Dunbartonshire Amateur Swimming Club through our Community Champions initiative. The club plays a vital role in encouraging young people to stay active and achieve their potential both in and out of the pool.
“By helping to fund the championships and coaching development, we hope to make a lasting impact on the local community.”
Lisa Rafferty, West Dunbartonshire Amateur Swimming Club, said: “West Dunbartonshire Amateur Swimming Club is delighted to receive financial support from Persimmon homes to support our volunteer development and annual club Championships.
“This support will help us run a poolside helpers course, train new parent coaches, new time keepers and team managers and overall strengthen our army of volunteers and the service we delivery to the swimmers of West Dunbartonshire.”
Persimmon West Scotland’s Community Champions initiative donates over £6,000 every three months to local organisations and charities, aiming to leave a lasting legacy in the communities where it operates.
