Wheatley to deliver new homes and staff hub in Stranraer

Work is set to start this month on a new £4.1 million housing and office development in Stranraer.
Wheatley Homes South is building nine two-bedroom homes at Ashwood Drive for social rent.
The block will have low-carbon features including solar panels, energy-efficient heating and high levels of insulation.
The Scottish Government contributed a total of £1.5m towards the project, with Dumfries and Galloway Council providing £500,000. The contractor will be McTaggart Construction.
Work on the site at Ashwood Drive is set to last around 12 months, with tenants expected to start moving into their new homes in the spring of 2026. A new staff hub will also be built at the site.
Alex Lamb, managing director at Wheatley Homes South, said: “Everyone at Wheatley is looking forward to work beginning at this site at Ashwood Drive. We are grateful to our partners at Dumfries and Galloway Council and the Scottish Government for their support in being able to deliver these much-needed homes in the town centre in Stranraer.
“We look forward to the flats being completed and customers being able to move into them in spring 2026.”
In 2023, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Wheatley Homes South and Wheatley Group signed a strategic agreement to build new affordable homes and deliver better services to communities.
Over the next three years, Wheatley Homes will invest £39.1m in Dumfries and Galloway in its existing homes and communities; with £4.8m in the Stewartry, £9.4m in Wigtownshire, £10.9m spent in Annandale and £14m in Nithsdale.
