Whitecross MD braves icy conditions on Arctic Trek in aid of children’s charity
Graeme Scott, managing director of Whitecross Building Consultancy, has returned from a gruelling three-day Arctic Trek challenge and raised over £3000 for charity.
Graeme braved the elements and took part in a 90 kilometre Arctic Trek challenge to raise money for Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby.
Starting in Rovaniemi, the official home of Santa Claus, in Finland, Graeme spent three days trekking into the Arctic Circle facing temperatures as low as -30 degrees, dragging all of his equipment in a pulk sled and sleeping in a tent.
Graeme said: “Today one in 20 children are disabled in the UK and there are 3.5 million children living in poverty. Whilst we can’t change their circumstances, we can give these kids living on our doorsteps, better opportunities. The trek certainly wasn’t for the faint hearted and without doubt one of the most challenging experiences I have ever faced. However, to be able to take part in such an expedition and raise money for a fantastic charity is extremely humbling.
“I would like to thank everyone who has donated so far and help me raise over £3200 (including Gift Aid) which will enable the Wooden Spoon to fund a range of projects such as respite and medical treatment centres, sensory rooms, specialist playgrounds, sports activity areas and community based programmes for disadvantaged and disabled children.”
