Plans lodged for rebuild of Girvan Primary School

Work has begun on plans to rebuild Girvan Primary School.

A Proposal of Application (PAC) Notice has been lodged with South Ayrshire Council seeking permission to demolish Girvan Primary School.

A wider project involves the demolition of the existing building and replacing it with a new one - complete with ASN (Additional Support Needs) facility and EarlyYears Centre.

In March 2023, South Ayrshire Council approved the £22.4 million project, with Norr awarded the contract for the work. Now, the PAC Notice is the latest step on the planning journey.

A description of the proposal states that the new-build primary school would be located adjacent to the existing Girvan Primary School, in Wesley Road. Works will include the demolition of the existing building and associated external spaces, re-provision of car parking and external playspaces.

The plans also involve “external sport pitches and play spaces, street furniture and landscaping.”

Members of the public will have a chance to find out more as two public engagement events will take place in September and October. The first one will take place on Wednesday, September 25, between 3pm and 8pm, at Girvan Primary School. A final event will be held at the school on Wednesday, October 23, between 3pm and 8pm.

The PAC application reads: “Details of the current design proposal will be available to view and discuss with members of the project team at the public drop-in event. Those attending the first phase events will have the opportunity to have their comments recorded.”

The application added: “The event will be attended by the project’s client team, main contractor and the project architect who will be available to answer questions and provide any additional information or clarification as required.

“Exhibition panels will be displayed at the event with facility for comments to be made during the event or on a dedicated website. An online form for public feedback will also be made available during, and for a minimum 21-day period after, the initial public engagement event.”
