Work on Boroughmuir High School extension to begin next month
Work on the proposed extension to Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh is set to begin early next month and be completed by June 2022.
The design by architects Holmes Miller consists of an elegant, cohesive extension to the existing school building, set over 5 floors, with 12 new general purpose and ICT classrooms, as well as staff offices and ground floor studio space and associated changing rooms.
Further works will be carried out within the existing building to re-align classroom clusters in tandem with the new works.
The extension has been designed to seamlessly blend with the existing building both externally and internally, giving the school enhanced prominence to the north elevation addressing Dundee Street, and incorporates the introduction of an integrated artwork mural on the west gable developed in tandem with Boroughmuir High School Art Department and third year pupils.
The ground floor studio space complements an existing suite of flexible studio accommodation within the school which is accessible for community use out with school hours. Upper floor classrooms within the proposed extension are linked efficiently to the existing building on each floor through one of the buildings main stairwells.
