Work start on Barrhead’s new £16m retail park
A sod cutting ceremony has been held at the former Nestle Purina Factory site on Glasgow Road in Barrhead to officially mark the commencement of work on a new £16 million retail park.
The development will feature a Lidl supermarket, a B&M store with garden centre, Burger King and Starbucks drive thru’s and five other retail units.
Other pre-lets have been agreed with Indigo Sun and Salvation Army with two further units under offer and two remaining units available for rent.
The retail park will create 120 to 140 long-term retail jobs as well as around 50 to 60 construction jobs during the build and fit-out phases.
London and Scottish Developments, part of Glasgow-based London and Scottish Property Investment Management (LSPIM) has engaged Muir Construction to build the 64,000-square-foot retail development, as well as 362 car parking spaces including eight rapid chargers for electric cars. The development is due to be completed for Spring 2023.
Andy Richardson, group development director at London & Scottish Developments, said: “I am delighted to see construction commence on a site that has lain derelict for so many years. We are pleased to have worked with both East Renfrewshire Council and Muir Construction to regenerate this disused land to meet modern occupier demands.
“This new retail and leisure offer will attract shoppers from a wide catchment area into Barrhead. It will provide the public with more choice and enhance their overall shopping experience.
“This site represents the latest in a series of successful retail developments and the seventh with Muir Construction. We have previously completed retail parks at Cupar, Crieff, Cowdenbeath, Aviemore, Cumbernauld, Paisley and Dalkeith. We welcome approaches from landowners who wish to undertake similar schemes and require a well-funded partner.”
