Work starts on Caltongate Premier Inn and Hub hotels

Construction works are underway on Artisan Real Estate Investors’ Caltongate development at East Market Street where they are building two hotels for Whitbread PLC as part of their development site in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town.
This phase of the development includes a 127-room Premier Inn and a 130-room Hub by Premier Inn, Whitbread’s innovative new ‘compact’ hotel format with construction works anticipated as being completed in early in 2016.
Lawrence McPherson Associates are acting as architectural consultant on brand delivery on behalf of Whitbread for both hotels.
Stephen McGhee, principal at Lawrence McPherson Associates, said “This is an exciting development to be part of and we are particularly excited about being the first Hub by Premier Inn being constructed outside London.”
“This compact concept is innovative in its design. Not only are the rooms only 11.4sq.m with every centre metre optimised but it will be the UK’s first hotel with its own app which allows guests control their hotel experience by controlling the temperature, lighting and TV from their smart phones.”
