Dundee City Council is funding £10.6m towards the new secondary, with the rest being provided by the Scottish Futures Trust.

The new Baldragon Academy is expected to be ready for its first intake of pupils in early 2018. It will form part of an educational campus for the area which will include the new primary and nursery, due to open in October this year.

Designed by Holmes Miller Partnership, the project is being led by hub East Central Scotland in partnership with the council, Scottish Futures Trust and Robertson Tayside.

Dundee City Council leader Councillor Ken Guild said: “Schools are an important component of our commitment to improve our communities and the replacement for Baldragon Academy will provide state of the art facilities to meet the opportunities and challenges that our pupils will face in the years ahead.

“This is yet another major enhancement of learning and teaching facilities across the city.”

Gary Bushnell, chief executive, hub East Central Scotland, said: “This is the second new school project that hub is delivering in Dundee and we look forward to handing over a completed high quality building that provides a bright, modern learning environment for pupils and staff and fully meets the needs of the community that it serves.”

“Furthermore, being able to deliver the project alongside Sidlaw View Primary School will deliver crucial efficiency savings, both during construction and in the long-term operation of the schools.
