Work starts on 28-home affordable housing development in Glasgow

Construction work has begun on new affordable homes located in the Gorbals area of Glasgow’s Southside.

Comprising 28 homes for social rent in a mix of 18, one and two-bedroom flats and 10, four and five-bedroom terraced houses, the development is set to transform land once occupied by Gorbals Health Centre on Pine Place.

The project – designed by Reiach and Hall Architects - builds on the recent regeneration of the wider Gorbals area, and is being delivered by contractor, CCG (Scotland), on behalf of New Gorbals Housing Association.

CCG managing director, David Wylie, said: “CCG is delighted to have returned to the Gorbals with Pine Place. Over the last five years, we have completed several developments on behalf of New Gorbals Housing Association, namely completing the final phase of the 30-year Crown Street Regeneration with North Gate, which was the recent winner of one of the UK’s most prestigious architectural awards (RIBA National Award 2024).

“The Association is to be commended for its dedication to the Gorbals; the ongoing regeneration of the area has been transformative, and I am in no doubt Pine Place will be another positive addition to the surrounding community.

“The homes themselves will be delivered using our advanced construction methods which will realise enhanced quality and energy performance characteristics and create a warm, comfortable living environment for the future tenants.

“I look forward to seeing how construction will progress over the coming months.”

Pine Place has been supported by £6.2m of grant funding by Glasgow City Council and is due for completion summer 2025.
