Work starts on new council homes for Beith and Kilbirnie

Newhouse Drive, Kilbirnie

Work is now underway on two brand new council house developments in the Garnock Valley.

A total of 14 new homes will be built across four sites at Laburnum Avenue, Beith, and Newhouse Drive, Kilbirnie.

The previous flatted blocks were demolished after being identified for improvement as part of North Ayrshire Council’s Estate Based Regeneration Programme.

The £3 million proposals – supported by £1m Scottish Government Grant - will see seven modern, energy efficient new homes built in each town and will provide a mix of two-bedroom amenity bungalows and two-bedroom general needs homes. The homes will be built in sections off-site by Ayrshire firm Connect Modular - part of the Wee House Group - before being assembled on-site.

Councillor Tony Gurney, cabinet member for green environment and economy, said: “I’m delighted to see work get under way on this exciting project which will help revitalise and regenerate communities in Beith and Kilbirnie.

“It is yet another important part of our ambitious house-building programme which will deliver more than 1,600 brand new, energy-efficient homes in every part of North Ayrshire.”

Construction is expected to be completed in late 2024.
