Work is getting under way on a multi-million pound project to refurbish four primary schools in Moray.

The £17million investment will result in major improvements at Applegrove in Forres, Millbank in Buckie, Seafield in Elgin and St Gerardine in Lossiemouth.

The work is designed to bring the condition of the schools up to a standard that will be fit for the purpose of delivering education to pupils in the 21st century.

The refurbishment has been funded with the help of a £10million grant from the Scottish Government, with Moray Council providing the remainder of the funding.

The work will include new roof coverings, windows and doors, external insulation, new toilets and completely modernised heating and electrical systems.

Work will get under way during the summer break, which began last week, and will continue until spring 2017.

It will be carried out in phases and all four schools will remain operational throughout the contract period, with pupils moving within their existing school or being decanted into modular accommodation as work progresses.

Planning approval has been given for all four sites and the contract has been awarded to Galliford Try, the parent company of Morrison Construction.
