Worker dies after falling from ladder at Bearsden Station

A 20-year-old worker has died after falling from a ladder at Bearsden railway station in East Dunbartonshire.

British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to the scene following reports that a person had fallen from height, causing serious injury, shortly before 10am on Tuesday, 05 June.

“Initial reports suggested that the person had fallen from scaffolding at the station, however it is now believed to be a ladder,” BTP said.

“Police and paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service attended, despite their best efforts a 20-year-old man could not be saved.

“The man’s family have been informed and are being support by officers.”

BTP said the circumstances of the incident are not believed to be suspicious.

In a statement, Unite Scotland said its thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the victim.

“It is heart-breaking that a 20-year-old young man with his whole life ahead of him, left to go to work this morning and will not return home to his loved ones,” the union said.

“Unite Scotland have repeatedly called for greater enforcement and regulation in the construction industry including stronger health and safety standards.”
