Worker killed at site of Third Don Crossing
A construction worker has died following an accident on the Third Don Crossing site in Aberdeen yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the site around 4.45pm but the man, who has been named as Ian Walker, 58, from Dundee, died of his injuries.
Police Scotland initially said they responded to reports that a site worker had been injured.
A spokesman later said: “Sadly, as a result of his injuries, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Balfour Beatty is main contractor on the £18 million project to build a 90 metre bridge over the River Don.
A Balfour Beatty spokesperson said: “Yesterday afternoon, a colleague working on the Third Don Crossing construction project in Aberdeen died.
“Our deepest sympathies are with our colleague’s family, friends and co-workers at this time.
“We are liaising with Police Scotland and the Health & Safety Executive to support their investigations and while these continue it would not be appropriate to comment further.”
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “We offer our deepest condolences to the family.
“We are working with the police and HSE to establish what happened and so cannot comment any further.”
