Workman dies in 40ft fall from Edinburgh flat

Police ScotlandA man who died after being found injured in an Edinburgh street has been identified as a workman who had fallen 40ft from a flat above.

The 56-year-old, who has not been named, had been carrying out restoration work on a flat in Fettes Row in the New Town area when he fell around into the grounds below on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called after the man was found injured behind buildings at 10:15 am.

Witnesses said a woman from a business on Dundas Street had rushed to the side of the stricken worker to administer CPR until the ambulance arrived.



Officers said the man later succumbed to his injuries.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious but a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following the death of a 56-year-old man.

“The man was found injured behind buildings on Fettes Row.



“Emergency services attended, however the man later succumbed to his injuries.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing, but the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
