Works underway at new Maybole skatepark

Skaters, scooter users and bmx riders can look forward to a thrilling experience at the new Maybole skatepark when it opens early next year.

Over £224K is being spent on the project to ensure the new wheeled zone is one of the best in the country.

Local community groups were consulted during the planning stage and their suggestions incorporated into the final design.

Skatepark specialists, Bendcrete, are using sprayed flexible concrete to ensure they can incorporate all the ramps and slopes suggested during the engagement with the user groups.

The project is jointly funded by South Ayrshire Council’s Place Based Investment Fund with contribution from North Carrick Community Benefit Company (NCCBC).

Councillor Brian Connolly, sport and leisure portfolio holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “I am thrilled with the progress so far and works are on schedule for early 2024.

“The revamped skatepark is set to be the go-to destination for wheeled sports enthusiasts. Anyone will be able to use it and I expect the skatepark to become a hub for wheeled sports in the local community.

“Keeping active and social interaction is great for the mind as well as the body so I am sure this facility will be a great hit when it’s finished.”

Councillor Alec Clark, tourism, culture and rural affairs portfolio holder, added: “This is a really positive start to 2024 for Maybole and the surrounding area. As well as promoting healthy, active-living I am encouraged by the prospect of the facility hosting competitions and drawing tourists from far and wide.”
